I figured for my first ever blog post I better do something pretty cool. So, I did something that is actually a fairly new book, but also something special to my heart. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is a classic children’s story and has really affected my life because of all the cool characters. This book was really interesting because of the focus on the antagonist.
Author: Marissa Meyer
Age group: Middle and high schoolers, but could be enjoyable by adults too.
My Rating: 4/ 4 stars
In Heartless by Marissa Meyer we can witness fate drag down a girl to be the beginning of a ruthless, merciless queen: the infamous Queen of Hearts. The main character in this book is Catherine. She is the daughter of the marquis and his wife who deeply wish for her to marry the King of Hearts (classic case of them thinking she would be happy after they forced her into marriage). However, Catherine wants to open a bakery. Then, one night she meets a mysterious stranger. Eventually she meets a whole new gang of friends, including Hatta (originally the Mad Hatter). Catherine must fight for what she wants, which can sometimes end up not at all how you’d hoped.
I would recommend this book because the plot is extremely original, with twists and turns (I got lost in the maze). It also has original takes on the classic characters from the original Alice in Wonderland.
Heartless is a book that will make you equal parts happy, sad, confused, and suspense-filled.
