I’ve never been very informed about the doings of Marvel and DC, besides seeing the Spiderman movies. So, when my friend, Cheshire, suggested we watch it at her house over the weekend, I was a little unsure. It sounded like a violent-mutant-slime-doctor movie which didn’t sound very interesting to me. Then, she informed me that Doctor Strange was played by Benedict Cumberbatch, and I said something to the effect of “OMG really? Oh well, let’s watch it then!” To which she replied with something like “I thought that would convince you.” She knows me too well.
Title: Doctor Strange
Some Actors and Actresses: Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor
Age Group: PG-13
My Rating: 3.5 stars
Doctor Strange doesn’t start out really being that strange. Stephen Strange is a neurosurgeon with a photographic memory. He loves his job and feels confident in life. Then, one day, he gets into a car accident causing nerve damage to his hands. Thus, his hands will forever shake, meaning he can’t do his work anymore which, to him, means that his life has lost its worth.
He madly tries to find the technology or a talented enough surgeon that can fix the nerve damage. When Western medicine fails him, he travels to Kamar Taj and begins to learn mystic secrets of the galaxy. But, it isn’t just about him anymore and when a dark warrior kills his teacher, it’s up to Doctor Strange to save the fate of earth.
The rating for this movie is a 3.5 because, as I mentioned, I am not a fan of the Marvel and DC universes, but this movie really changed my mind. I think many people who normally wouldn’t watch this sort of movie could really enjoy it.
Happy Watching!
