How to be a Bawse

I have been a fan of iiSuperwomanii for a while now, so when I saw that she had released a book I was excited for her. It seemed like a fun book idea! I knew nothing. When my mum took me to the bookstore over spring break I decided to get the book. As soon as I started it I was totally blown away. This wasn’t some sort of comedy book about feeling good about yourself. This was so big: Big ideas, big concepts. I ended up reading it to my mother (two chapters a day sort of thing). The book helped both of us learn something and improve ourselves. Ready to become a Bawse?

Title: How to be a Bawse

Author: Lilly Singh

Age Group: Middle schoolers and up

My Rating: 4/4 stars

This book is sectioned into four categories: Master Your Mind, Hustle Harder, Make Heads Turn, and Be A Unicorn. Each category has chapters in it that teach lessons on how to become a Bawse. These are peppered with Lilly’s stories, all told in her voice (you can really tell it is her). There are also section endings about how Lilly’s life has changed and improved since a few years ago. Some of the most life-changing topics for me were these: Get Uncomfortable, Let Go of FOMO, Be The Dumbest, Be Santa, Shake What Your Mama Gave Ya, and Promote What You Love (FOMO is Fear Of Missing Out).

I understand that if you don’t watch Lilly’s videos then you might not be interested in reading her book or even reading this whole review. STOP! Stop right there. Don’t judge a book by its cover! I think this book should be read by everyone. Anyone who reads this book can learn something from it. It is emotionally moving and exciting, but also packed with the best advice that you could possibly get.

I think Lilly did such a wonderful job writing this book and I am so grateful that I got to read it. Lilly has some of the most potential of anyone I know; It’s great that she is using it to make a difference. The only reason I said this book should be for middle schoolers and up is because it brings up some hard topics. I encourage you to read it. You won’t be disappointed! (If you are disappointed, go ahead and blame me, but I am sure you won’t be).

Quote from the back of the book itself: “WARNING: This book does not include hopeful thoughts, lucky charms, or cute quotes. That’s because success, happiness, and everything else you want in life need to be worked for, not wished for. In Lilly’s world, there are no escalators, only stairs. Get ready to climb.” (Singh)

Happy Reading!
