It took me quite a long while to realize that Marissa Meyer had a new book out. I have read all of her books and really enjoyed them, so there was no way I was going to break my current streak. I’ll admit I was still not expecting to be so starstruck with this book, despite my love of her other works. Superheroes and supervillains have never really been my thing and unless I am talking about this series, it never will be. So, even though I didn’t think this book was going to be my type, it ended up getting my highest of praises, which I will now detail.

The main reason I fell in love with the plot is, well, the ideas present within it. This writer has shown herself to be a creative genius before in her works and didn’t disappoint when she created this new, totally different and unique universe. Not only the setting, but the antagonist verses protagonist was also twisted in a fascinating way: A typical antagonist is our protagonist, but also begins to question everything she has ever known. Now that we are talking about characters we might as well continue in this lane.

The characters made the story very dynamic and intriguing. This is partially because of their intricately crafted and enormously important backstories and also how the characters came together. How they all reacted, learned, changed, grew, and much more! I can’t wait to see more of them in book two!

Wait, don’t leave–it’s not the end! I have one more detail to add that not only blows my mind, but is the reason I think you should read this book too. THE SUSPENSE. Marissa Meyer completely tricked me!!! 😮 I am a certain type of reader that is always trying to put the dots together and hypothesize what will happen next. My quests for the truth were completely uprooted by this novel! I literally had no idea what was happening (but, you know, in a good kind of keep-you-guessing way).

This book is a beautiful and exciting piece of writing and I hope you will love it as much as I did!

Happy reading 2018–Let’s fly together!
