EarTHursday #7: “Community”

Hello! I have a new earTHursday post to share with you all today and because of what is going on in the world, I thought it would be relevant to share something that has been really helping me out lately.

Currently I am physically distancing myself and staying home as much as possible. It’s the only good thing to do in this situation, but I certainly hope this won’t be a new normal. These times are very uncertain, but I do have some hope because I have found a wonderful community of young people in my city who are just as passionate about speaking up for the planet as I am. I joined this movement a few months ago and now that I am stuck in my house, having people to talk to over zoom and having something to focus on has become of the utmost importance. I certainly feel a lot less lonely knowing I have online meetings every week.

Joining a group of some kind within your city is such a powerful way to not only start making a difference, but also to make like-minded friends and have people to bond with during your time at home. If you are looking for a community, then I encourage you to reach out on social media or via your friends and see if there is one where you live that you would be interested in joining.

The movement I’m currently a part of is called the Sunrise movement, which is a movement led by young Americans who want to create change and get a green new deal. There are hundreds of Sunrise hubs all across the USA, so if you’re looking to get involved with the climate justice movement it might be a great fit for you and there might be a hub already in your city!

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy ❤
