The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly

My mother and I had really made an effort to go into town so I could buy this book. We walked in through the doors of the bookstore and a man passed by saying “they’re closing.” We completely ignored him and pushed into the store, where a young employee told us that they were in the process of closing. “Wait! Please, we know what we want. It’s one book.” The employee glanced around and then relented. I got the book and shuffled hurriedly out the door. That was a miracle. Before I explain what this book is about, let me tell you about why I wanted to read it so badly...

Code Name Verity

After getting this at my favorite second-hand bookstore, I had high expectations. The synopsis and quotes on the cover from places like the New York Times made it sound like such a good book. Let’s just say that as of this moment, I finished it ten minutes ago. I still am not sure how my expectations of this book effected my reading experience, but it was a rollercoaster...

Everything, Everything

It all started when I went to see Beauty and the Beast. In the theatre, they always show nearly 20 minutes of ads and upcoming movie trailers. I’m one of those people who likes this just fine, for the most part. A trailer for Everything, Everything came on. It looked spellbinding and emotional. A while later, my friend said she was reading a book called Everything, Everything. Deja vu! Once she finished, she let me borrow it, before I finished it the next morning...

The Book Thief

I had noticed this book from time to time, but I never actually read it until just recently. In my English class, we had to pick a book out of about ten options for our literature group to read and discuss over the next two weeks. When I saw that this was one of the options to pick from, I was excited. It looked like the most interesting choice (also the longest to some of my group’s dismay). Luckily, the rest of the group did agree and we picked The Book Thief...

Hollow City

I took quite a long break between reading the first book, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and reading this sequel. The first book was good, but I wouldn’t have considered it to be one of my favorites. This was the reason that I didn’t end up continuing to read the series. However, after much egging on from my friend, I asked her to loan it to me and I started to read...

April 2017 Book Haul

This is the first time I've ever done one of these (been a lot of those lately). It's also not something I will necessarily do every month, because there might be times where I don't get any books (there's these things called libraries!). However, my local library had a spring sale and I also went to a second hand bookstore, so I figured I might as well do a haul post. All of the synopsis' are copied from Amazon. The images were obtained on Google images...
